Supported by the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, Toppr Asha will provide after-school education support to 5000 students

The novel coronavirus outbreak has required children to quickly adjust to remote courses as schools closed to help reduce the spread of the virus. However, remote learning has caused challenges for students who don’t have stable internet access or proper guidelines to learn from home. With studies of over 300 million students getting interrupted, for some children the impact of COVID-19 will be temporary. But for a few marginalized students, this pandemic will be devastating and can alter the course of their lives.

Although about 78 percent of India’s 1.3 billion population has mobile phones, only about 68 percent of students in higher grades have smartphones. With the government promoting online content on apps such as Diksha and e-Pathshala, it is also working on dissemination of lessons through radio and television. But interactive online classes clearly have the most potential to best simulate the school experience and are being deployed widely.

To reduce the pandemic’s impact on the already pervasive learning gap in schools, Toppr, India’s most advanced and comprehensive mobile application for personalized learning, has announced the launch of — Toppr Aasha, supported by Micheal and Susan Dell Foundation. This program, which is a part of Toppr’s CSR campaign, aims to systematically improve the performance of secondary grade students from underprivileged backgrounds through the Toppr learning app.

Toppr plans to enrol meritorious students from low-income backgrounds, from class 9–12 and empower them free access to Toppr’s Advance Pack Subscription and a team of academic counsellors, appointed to provide learning support to them throughout the year.

Starting June 2020, Toppr Asha’s year-long program will allow students to access learning materials and attend after-school video lectures at a convenient time with the Toppr learning app. Covering a wide range of subjects, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Social Science, Business Studies, Economics, and more. The result of the program will be computed by assigning equal weights to the usage of the app and final assessment conducted by Toppr. Based on student’s performance rewards worth up to Rs10,000 will be provided.
